David Suchet, CBE, is a British actor known for his performances on stage and television. He is best known for his role as novelist Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot, whom he played for 25 years from 1989 until 2014. Since 2012, he has served as a vice-president of the British Bible Society. His audio recording of New International Version of the Bible was released in 2014. Suchet has received numerous awards including the Royal Television Society's award for best male actor for A Song for Europe (1985), British Academy Television Award (BAFTA) for the title character in the television series Poirot (1991), an honorary degree for his contributions to the Arts from the University of Chichester (2008) and from the University of Kent at Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury (2011), and appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2011.
