Great explanation here Dr. Hyatt. This really helps support what I've been teaching my students (Master's College & Seminary -- no not connected to McArthur's school :-)). It's not enough that the church have generic "teaching" (on practical Christian living, and/or life and leadership principles). But along with, and in fact of far greater importance than, such practical teaching is that we pass on the teaching of the Apostles--the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ, and the Spirit's outpouring on Pentecost. There is a tradition, a story, that needs to be passed on and into which we must find ourselves immersed if any of the practical teaching elements are to make sense. So, it's important that we don't neglect "apostles'" as the modifier of what was being taught. Thanks for this.
