After finishing the Manila International Mission Conference of 2022, it really feels like we’ve been running at supersonic speed on a moving train. I, along with my wife, Rev. Amy, and members of A Grain of Wheat Christian Ministries in the Philippines made preparations for the Manila International Mission Conference of 2022, with prayer, fasting, and great devotion that brought about some wonderful results. The next day, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the founding of A Grain of Wheat Christian Ministries. The Manila International Mission Conference was held on August 5th and 6th in the Grand Sanctuary of A Grain of Wheat Christian Ministries in Tay Tay, Rizal. Our worship should always be like what we experienced at this conference. How can I express our thrill and surprise? My words cannot adequately describe our joy and the amazing work of the Holy Spirit in our midst at this time.

We thought that the Manila International Mission Conference of 2022 would be attended by 1,500 people. However, 1880 people registered and in the night session we had 3,000 attendees. A Grain of Wheat Christian Ministries members fasted and prayed with the hearts of martyrs. They rallied around my wife, Pastor Amy Kim. The whole church worked as one for three months in order to prepare for the conference. There was incredible dedication to singing, orchestra, venue preparation, meal serving, accommodations, modern dance, tambourine dance, traditional Korean fan dance, Nanta (traditional Korean drum dance) performance, choir, and the media. We had a number of amazing messages that told us how the church should move forward after the pandemic. As a result, there was a remarkable response as 1,200 out of 2,000 people committed themselves to missionary service.

Meals for the conference were provided with the support of Yoido Full Gospel Church. But from the very first day we did not have enough, so we had to buy meals for an additional 500 people.

Dr. Younghoon Lee of Yoido Full Gospel Church, the largest church in the world, delivered two very powerful messages. The ministry that the Yoido Full Gospel Church has consistently practiced for 66 years was concisely shared so that churches around the world can follow it.

Ministry of the Word of God

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit

The Ministry of Prayer

The Ministry of the Cell Group Meetings

The Ministry of Evangelism and World Missions

The Ministry of Charity Missions

Among the Filipinos, Bishop Efraim Tendero, who has been working internationally like the UN Secretary-General, proposed the Galilean Movement, a global mission movement, under the theme of “Finishing the Task.” He suggested a movement to produce one million disciple leaders. He hopes that this movement will surpass the Lausanne Movement and the World Evangelical Alliance. After graduating from seminary in Canada, Bishop Efraim Tendero entered the ministry at the age of 21 and served for 15 years. When he was 36 he served as a national director of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) for 22 years, and then joined the World Evangelical Alliance, which leads 600 million evangelical church members around the world. After serving as the Secretary-General and CEO of WEA for 6 years, he now serves as a global ambassador for WEA. He gave us a message of challenge concerning the Galilean movement, which is now working on making one million disciple makers. Dr. Hyoungsik Yim spoke about creation, the flood in the days of Noah, and the changes in the global ecosystem of this era as well as the significance of hydrogen rich water. My lectures covered all possible mission principles, and provided analysis and direction for the church after the global pandemic. The post COVID-19 era demands that we undertake a new normal mission model and reach the third and fourth generations, mobilizing the global south to all missions. We must take full advantage of the great opportunities brought about by the 4th industrial revolution: digital technology. Innovations like cloud computing, big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and immersive media provide virtual formats that enable us to share the gospel in revolutionary ways from anywhere to everywhere. Now is the time for Christian mission agencies and organizations to collaborate together to bring the whole gospel using digital technologies and platforms to the global village.

Senator Mani Pacquiao (center)

Most amazing was evangelist Manny Pacquiao, who won eight world championship boxing awards, ran for Congress, then Senator, and even ran for President. A large number of high-profile leaders who could relate to the entire Filipino community, participated as Manny Pacquiao was commissioned and consecrated for evangelization in the Philippines and the world. Next, there was a message from Bishop Noel Pantoja, the National Director of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches, and Dr. Peirong Lin, the Deputy Secretary-General of the World Evangelical Alliance who set forth the biblical foundations for post pandemic Christianity. Bishop Noel Pantoja, the National Director of the PCEC, shared the realities of the Philippine churches during the pandemic and preached that the pandemic should be seen as an opportunity, an Open Door.

Prayer of consecration

With the messages from this conference attended by 1880 people from 17 countries, the mission statement was divided into three directions such as backward, forward, and inward for Christian missionary work after the pandemic: I made it clear.

We pray that you will always be filled with the grace of the Lord.

What God is doing in the world today? Pastor John Lathrop tells us about a move of the Holy Spirit in Southeast Asia.

A significant Christian conference was held in Indonesia between July 4th and July 6th, it was called the Kingdom Family Conference. My wife and I had the honor of being present for this gathering. The conference was not put on by a Christian school or denomination. It was birthed out of a movement that began ten years ago called Fire Generation. This movement began as a youth ministry in a local church, grew to become an interdenominational youth movement, and is now an apostolic movement to build up the Body of Christ in Indonesia. And let me assure you the people in this movement are on fire! The spiritual atmosphere in the meetings was highly charged. No speakers are announced in advance, in fact, no big name speakers ministered at the conference. This is a grass roots movement.

One of the leaders, told me that seven hundred people registered for the conference but that they estimate that 1,400 people attended the evening revival services. The theme of the conference was “Time of Fulfillment.” The majority of the people at the conference were Indonesians but there were also people there from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Nagaland, India, and the United States. Fire Generation has grown from its early days. It has reached out and established relationships with other nations. In one of the services I was called on to pray for Indonesia as a representative of the United States. Some things in the services had to be translated for the English speakers who attended the services.

The conference consisted of seven services, one on Wednesday night, three on Thursday, and three on Friday, each service was three hours long! Prayer, worship, and ministry were the dominant features of most of the meetings. There were only two services that had a significant amount of preaching. The services were characterized by great joy, including dancing, as well as weeping, and indeed in some cases, wailing. Spiritual intensity marked the services. In a day when it seems like many young people in the West are indifferent or cold about spiritual things it was refreshing to see the spiritual zeal of these young people. They are zealous in worship, prayer, and service. They are also very open to the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Dreams and visions are welcomed in this ministry. The people in attendance love God and they love Indonesia. They are also willing to invest their lives in helping to bring improvement to their country through Christian witness and service. Their eyes are also focused on other nations as well. There is no way to describe the power and impact of these services, you would have to be there to understand. I have never seen anything like it in my life.

Rick Wadholm Jr. shares his highlights and reflections from the Society for Pentecostal Studies 2018 Annual Conference held at Pentecostal Theological Seminary, on the campus it shares with Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.

The day before the meetings officially commenced for SPS in Cleveland, Tennessee, I took four of my students from Trinity Bible College & Graduate School in Ellendale, ND, on a historical tour of Church of God sites organized by the The Dixon Pentecostal Research Center and led by Dr. Henry Smith.
We traced the early history of the Church of God beginning with the organization of the Christian Union in 1886 at Barney Creek. A mill used to be present at the site and functioned to fund the ministry of R. G. Spurling. We then found ourselves at the site of the Shearer Schoolhouse where an early holiness revival contributed to the growth in 1896. Another site that is marked (though not at the original location even as it is near) is the log church site where worshippers experienced Spirit baptism and opponents eventually succeeded in burning the church to the ground. We also toured the Fields of the Wood Biblical Park (http://cogop.org/fow/) where the Holiness Church at Camp Creek was organized in the home of W.F. Bryant (1902) and where A.J. Tomlinson joined (1903). There we saw the world’s largest 10 Commandments and traveled the trail of markers dedicated to the doctrines and teachings of the Church of God of Prophecy. From that location we traveled to the house where the first General Assembly met (1906) and I posed for preaching (it seemed a fitting pose). To wrap up the tour we visited R.G. Spurling’s gravesite and then A.J. Tomlinson’s home in Cleveland. It was a welcome learning experience for myself and the students I brought along to discover Pentecostal stories outside of our own specific fellowship (Assemblies of God).

Amplify Conference 2018: Reimagining A Simple Gospel

As our world quickly changes and hearts are more open to the gospel, it’s time for the Church to show and share the love of Jesus winsomely, passionately, and in new and innovative ways. The gospel message is unchanging, but the way we share it is fluid and bends with the times. Join with hundreds of others for three life-changing days of inspiration, training, and networking as we find new way to love our world into the arms of Jesus.

Register and mark your calendar for June 26-28, 2018 to join us at Highpoint Church in Naperville, IL, in the Chicago area.

About the theme, “Reimaging the Simple Gospel”

Look around you. Look around the world. So many needs, so many wounds, pains, and divisions. So much brokenness. God made flesh, God dwelt among us. That’s what our world needs. An unsaturated, uncomplicated reconciling gospel that proclaims one thing: the healing work of the Cross.

For some, sharing the gospel is a dim memory. For others, it’s an archaic command. For others, it’s the call of a few. For too many, it’s hard, filled with fear, uncertainty, and a lack of feeling prepared. What all of these views lack is the rock-solid truth that God has called all of us, God will equip us, and God will do the work. When we take our eyes off ourselves, God is lifted high for all to see.

Amplify 2018 will allow us to strip out the complexities of gospel witness and reveal the simplicity of the gospel that overcomes all barriers. Christ crucified. Christ lifted high. Our world made new. What does the simple, stripped gospel message look like to you? And how are you showing & sharing it with a world in desperate need of it?

An amazing line-up of speakers including Luis Palau, Danielle Strickland, Steve Carter, Belinda Baumann, Will Graham, Miles McPherson, Tom Lin, Laurel Bunker, Nick Hall, Phil Vischer, Ed Stetzer, Lisa Fields, Scott Chapman, Jessie & Nigel Paul, and more!

Amplify 2018 will also serve as the Lausanne North American Regional Gathering.

Amplify 2017 is a national conference on evangelism. “If we are honest, if we look at the fruit of many churches and Christ-followers today, we might say that too many hold evangelism to be a low priority in their daily lives. Perhaps they haven’t had much training, perhaps they are overcome by fear. Regardless of the reason we don’t show and share the love of Jesus with others, we must admit that the Church in North America is at a critical crossroads of witness. Amplify is a 3-day event where we will reimagine an evangelism for our day that is winsome, soulful, creatively, and deeply grounded in scripture. Amplify will feature a mix of plenary speakers, case studies, research, breakout sessions, tracks, and networking times intended to meet the needs of everyone who attends.”

Speakers include: Luis Palau, Trip Lee, Nikki Toyama-Szeto, Danielle Strickland, Dave Ferguson, Ed Stetzer, and Jerry Root.
